Daniel B. Shapiro is chief information officer of the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dental Medicine, where he also serves as the school’s chief privacy officer for HIPAA compliance. In the past he has served as the university’s director of institutional research and as director of research at the Institute for Research on Higher Education at Penn’s Graduate School of Education.

Mr. Shapiro is a member of the Dental Informatics Section of the American Dental Education Association as well as a member of the American Medical Informatics Association. Most recently he has participated in a study funded by the National Library of Medicine to investigate the use of technical and pedagogical innovations to address anticipated manpower needs in dentistry.
