Peter Cappelli

Peter Cappelli is the George W. Taylor Professor of Management at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Cappelli joined the Wharton faculty in 1985, and has served as Chairperson of the Management Department (1995-99), and Director of the Center for Human Resources (1990-present). Dr. Cappelli held previous appointments at the University of California, Berkeley; the University of Illinois; and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dr. Cappelli serves as a Senior Advisor to the Kingdom of Bahrain (2003 to present); Training and Development Editor, "International Library of Management Thought;" Editorial Board, "Organizational Dynamics," "Journal of Industrial Relations," "Administrative Science Quarterly," "Employee Relations (U.K)", and "Industrial and Labor Relations Review." Dr. Cappelli formerly held positions as Co-Director of the U.S. Department of Education National Center on the Educational Quality of the Workforce, University of Pennsylvania; and Research Associate, National Bureau of Economic Research.

Dr. Cappelli’s research interests include human resource practices, talent and performance management, and public policy related to employment. He is currently completing a major study of worker characteristics and establishment performance with the Bureau of the Census.
