Matt Hartley is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hartley's research and writing focuses on issues of organizational change at colleges and universities. Before joining the faculty at Penn, he was an instructor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges as well as a Teaching Fellow and Research Assistant at Harvard University. In addition, he was Co-Chair of the Editorial Board for the Harvard Educational Review. He recently co-authored a report for the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, “Evaluation and the Academy: Are we Doing the Right Thing?” (2002) with Henry Rosovksy, Harvard University. He also has co-authored two book chapters on civic education, "Civic Renewal in Higher Education: The State of the Movement and the Need for National Network" (Ehrlich Ed. 2000) and “Service Learning and Civic Renewal: Partnerships among Higher Education, National Organizations, Foundations, and Government” (Jacoby, Ed. in press.) with Elizabeth Hollander, Executive Director of Campus Compact.
